California Beach Hockey Club (CBHC) Official Rulebook

Anything not outlined in the USABH rulebook will be decided at the discretion of the California Beach Hockey Club.

Gameplay
  • 3 Periods of 10 minutes with stopping clock
  • Clock runs at 6-goal lead
  • Game ends at 8-goal lead
  • Regular Season: Sudden death overtime will consist of 1 period at 5 minute long, 3-v-3 overtime with stopping clock. If there is no winner, game will be recorded as a draw. One-point will be allocated to both teams.
  • Playoffs: Overtime will consist of sudden death 10 minute periods until a winner is made. The Gold Division features a shootout at the end of the initial 10-minute overtime period, other divisions do not have this stipulation.
CBHC Divisions
  • Gold Division: Advanced players looking for a higher level competition.
  • Silver Division: Intermediate to advanced players looking for a higher level of competitive, recreational play.
  • Bronze/Co-Ed Division: Beginner to intermediate players looking for a recreational level of play.
  • Tuesday Night Open Division: As this is a draft league, this division is open to all players of all skill levels. Players may sign up as individuals with limited pairing to one player. We will do our best to honor requests but none are guaranteed.
ROSTER STRUCTURE AND PLAYOFF ELIGIBILITY

Gold Division

  1. 18-Man Roster; due to the league office with signed waivers for each player by FOURTH WEEK/FOURTH GAME OF THE REGULAR SEASON.
  2. All players named on 18-man roster are playoff eligible. There is NO REQUIREMENT for minimum games played.
  3. After rosters are locked locked past the fourth week/fourth game of the regular season, each club has a maximum of two injury reserve replacements. Again, as long as these players are signed and cleared, they are playoff eligible. Once the injured player is placed on the Injury Reserve (IR), they are ineligible to play for a consecutive period of FOUR GAMES/WEEKS and must then replace another active player on the roster upon return.

Silver Division

  1. All players must be registered and have signed waivers prior to any game they intend to play.
  2. Rostered players MUST meet the minimum requirement of 3 regular season game to be playoff eligible.
  3. EMERGENCY GOALTENDERS: Each team can either utilize a rostered player or differ to the league-approved emergency goaltender list. Unless rostered, emergency goaltenders cannot play DOWN a division. (e.g. your regular Silver goaltender is out, and you recruit with a permanent Gold division goaltender). Our goal is to encourage the growth of goaltenders in our league, and call players "up" for the experience.
  4. Any player not paid up with a signed waiver is ineligible for the playoffs.

Bronze Division

  1. All players must be registered and have signed waivers prior to any game they intend to play.
  2. Rostered players MUST meet the minimum requirement of 3 regular season game to be playoff eligible.
  3. EMERGENCY GOALTENDERS: Each team can either utilize a rostered player or differ to the league-approved emergency goaltender list. Even if they are rostered, emergency goaltenders cannot play "DOWN" a division. (e.g. your regular Bronze goaltender is out, and you recruit a permanent Gold/Silver division goaltender). Our goal is to encourage the growth of goaltenders in our league, and call players "up" for the experience.
  4. Any player not paid up with a signed waiver is ineligible for the playoffs.

Tuesday Night League:

  1. All players must be registered and have signed waivers prior to any game they intend to play.
  2. Rostered players MUST meet the minimum requirement of 3 regular season game to be playoff eligible.
  3. EMERGENCY GOALTENDERS: Each team can either utilize a rostered player or differ to the league-approved emergency goaltender list. Our goal is to encourage the growth of goaltenders in our league, and call players "up" for the experience.
  4. Any player not paid up with a signed waiver is ineligible for the playoffs.
KEY Rules aND REGULATIONS
  • Gold Division Rosters must be complete by the fourth week of the season.
  • Team fee is due prior to the first game.
  • USABH registration is HIGHLY encouraged before stepping on the rink.
  • ICING: Fully enforced. NOTE: If the defensive player gives up a clear play to the ball, the icing is waved OFF.
  • OFFSIDES: Fully enforced.
  • COVERING THE BALL OUTSIDE THE CREASE: If a goaltender covers the ball outside of his/her crease and the ball was not a shot on goal, this is deemed a delay of game penalty.
  • STEPPING ON A PLAYERS' STICK: This is a normal part of the game. However, if this occurs in the boards or if a stick is on the ground, therein stepping on or kicking the stick results in a penalty.
  • UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT: This is at the discretion of our league referees. Actions like yelling at the officials, or excessively celebrating (in the face of the opponent) will likely result in a penalty with a prior warning. Captains are allowed to talk to the officials, however, this needs to be done coherently and in-between the lines of the game (e.g. between whistles or intermissions).
  • EMBLESSHMENT/EXCESSIVE DIVING: "Embellishment" means that the player makes the impression of a foul look more serious than it truly was. If a player is hooked, slashed, tripped, boarded, etc. and that player attempts to draw the official's attention to the penalty by falling easily or twisting their body, both players will be sent to the penalty box. If the original penalty is called, then unsportsmanlike conduct will follow. However, if the player "dives" when no foul has occurred, the official has discretion to call unsportsmanlike conduct without calling the original "penalty" at all.
  • Defensive zone hand pass is okay below the red line, pass must start and end below the red line.
  • There is no video review on any play.
  • Teams MUST wear matching colored shirts. Any player without the exact team color shirt will NOT be allowed to play.
  • Goalies do not have to wear an official team jersey or color.
  • Minor penalties are 1:30 minutes.
  • Major penalties are 3 minutes.
  • Misconduct penalties are 5 minutes.
  • If a team is more than 5 minutes late to start a game, they will be assessed a minor penalty to start the game.
  • If a team is not ready within 10 minutes of the scheduled game time, they will forfeit.
  • One 30-second timeout per game per team.
  • Non-rostered players allowed to participate in CBHC games at the approval of the captains, during the regular season. Non-rostered players CANNOT play in any playoff/knockout game.
  • Fill-in goalies cannot play in playoffs.
  • Any player found to be adding additional points to their stat line on the score sheet will be suspended for 2 games automatically.
  • Players must play 2 games during the regular season to be eligible to play in playoffs.
Major Rules
  • CBHC has a ZERO tolerance policy for fighting, racism, or homophobia.
  • Any fight/punch thrown results in the player being ejected from the game and rink. Additional disciplinary action can and will be taken at the discretion of CBHC Leadership.
  • Any player who makes racist/homophobic comments on the rink will be ejected from the game and the rink. Additional disciplinary action can and will be taken at the discretion of CBHC Leadership.
  • Multiple game suspensions will be handled on a case by case basis determined by league management.
League StandingS/POINT STRUCTURE
  • 2 points earned for a win, 1 point earned for overtime/shootout loss, 1 point earned for a draw, 0 points for a regulation loss.
  • When teams are tied in points, a tiebreaker process will determine seeding.
Playoffs
  • Playoffs schedule will be determined based on the number of teams that register.
